Players
Last-five scores, role, fantasy average and captain pick rate — every player the desk is tracking, on one index.
01 What the index tracks
The Players index tracks every player who has been in a likely XI of a desk-tracked fixture within the last 30 days. The index carries six columns: player, role, last-five innings, fantasy average, captain-pick rate and a one-line form note.
Updates happen at the close of each fixture and again at the morning desk for fixtures the next day. Index rows are sorted by last-five form, with role as a secondary sort.
02 How form is computed
Form on this desk is the sum of fantasy points across the player’s last five completed innings in the same format. It is not a 50-over rolling average, not a strike-rate-only metric and not a “momentum score” — those are softer and we do not trust them.
Where a player has played fewer than five innings in the active format, we say so. A blank form row is more honest than an inflated five-fixture estimate built from a different competition.
03 Captain pick rate
Captain-pick rate on the index is the share of completed desk-tracked fixtures in which the player was selected as captain by readers. It is a reader metric, not a model metric — useful as a polling signal, less useful as a forecast.
For a defensible captain pick, read the Captain & vice-captain desk in parallel with the index.
04 Differentials and sleepers
Differential picks — players picked by fewer than 5 percent of teams — are flagged at the bottom of the index page. The flag lasts for one fixture. Sleepers — players just entering the active squad — get a separate flag for two fixtures.

05 Index archive
The index is updated daily. Archived snapshots — at week close and at season close — are kept so a reader can compare current form to form that has been worn down by a season of fixtures.
15 Frequently asked
The questions readers most often send to the desk, with answers rooted in the public editorial standards and the platform’s published terms.
How fresh is the player index?
The index is updated at the close of every desk-tracked fixture and at 09:00 IST each match-day morning.
How is captain pick rate computed?
It is a rolling share of completed fixtures where the player was selected as captain by readers polled through our desk-side widgets. It is a polling metric, not a model output.
Are overseas players tracked the same way?
Yes, with the same form definition. A player’s home league and overseas league are tracked separately to avoid mixing formats.
